BizCamp Dublin is back

May 18, 2010 in Events by Stephen Hewitt

As you may or may not be aware, the next Bizcamp Dublin will be on Saturday, May 29th in the Guinness Storehouse.

This will be the 3rd Bizcamp Dublin and promises to be even better the the first 2.

They will aim to have the usual format this time around – a full day of sharing business knowledge and experience through short presentations with networking sessions, a coffee break and lunch thrown in to keep your stamina up.

They will also be featuring a panel discussion mid-way through the day – keep an eye on the site for panel details.

The four sponsors for the event include:

  • Enterprise Ireland
  • IBM
  • Microsoft
  • Mason Hayes (Curran Solicitors).

The event is also kindly supported by the IIA and EventElephant.

One small change has been brought in this year which is a modest charge to cover their single biggest expense in organising Bizcamp….LUNCH!

They will be asking for €5 upon registration.

This €5 will mean:

  • you don’t have to leave the building to find food
  • you can network over lunch
  • you don’t have to bring sandwiches
  • and hopefully it will also mean you won’t register for the event just to get a bit of free advertising as you’ve no intention whatsoever in attending (you know who you are!)

They have 500 places up for grabs and usually book out way in advance so get registering!

1.30-4.30 Talks

What is a “BizCamp”?

BizCamp is short for business camp which follows the ideas of a BarCamp. Its a user-generated conference, where people get together and organise talks, networking and innovation.  We expect about 1 in 3 attendees to give a presentation. If you fancy talking, just include your topic on the registration form.

Who will talk?

We can’t predict who will talk at an event like this, as anyone who wishes to talk can, but judging by other similar events held elsewhere, talks can range from bootstrapping a business to managing taxes to new technologies.

How will I benefit from attending?

Maybe you’re a student interested in gauging the employment market? There will be business owners attending that you may wish to talk to. Maybe you’re interested in learning about building a facebook application. Hopefully there will be a mix of both business and technology talks – and maybe some talks that will inspire to follow the ambition you always had to start a business.

Ok, I’m in…

Bizcamp Newry – User Generated Business Conference

January 7, 2010 in Events by Stephen Hewitt

bizcampnewryBizcampNewry is a free business conference taking place in the Southern Regional College  Newry on Saturday the 6th of February 2010! There will be talks ranging from entrepreneurs actively working to professionals ready to share their knowledge and skills.

How much will it cost?

Its free! There is no charge to attend and lunch will be free on the day

What is a “bizcamp”?

bizcamp is short for business camp which follows the ideas of a barcamp. Its a user generated conference, a few people get together and organise facilities to allow talks, networking and innovation.  We expect close to 1/3 of all people attending to give a presentation, if you fancy talking, just include it  on the registration form, there is no fee to talk.

Who will talk

We cant predict who will talk at an event like this, as who ever turns up on the day and wishes to talk will be allowed to do so, but judging by other similar events held elsewhere, talks can range from bootstrapping a business to taxation and VAT.

Why Newry

Newry has the great geographical location to be located almost an hour from each of the two largest cities that the island of Ireland has. About an hour from Belfast and an Hour from Dublin. Therefore we are expecting to draw crowds from both unlike other conferences which usually just draw from the city that they are located in and the surrounding area

Why will I benefit from attending?

Maybe your a student interested in gauging the employment market? There will be business owners attending that you may wish to talk to. Maybe your interested in learning about building a facebook application. Hopefully there will be a mix of both business talks and technology talks and some talks that may just inspire to follow the ambition you always had to start a business.
